This can result in having the motor burn up and over heat. The best solution can be to not run it to long and with a lot of heavy load because this may cause the problem. Many be its to old and its running out of heart to run any more.

This is not a good sign. First, check the lint filter for excessive lint buildup, and remove any extra lint. Now, blow out the lint filter with compressed air. Then, you'll want to blow out the area where the filter goes as well. If the smell persists, it might be an electrical issue with the washer.

Your motor is probably burning out. You might be loading too much in at one time. Run it empty; if it still smells or smokes, call a repairman.
