Why does my Trane compressor quickly turn on and off again?

A model and year would make it easier to assume reason. Most probable cause is a pressure switch, although a wiring issue is a possibility.

Trane air conditioners usually have a low pressure switch that shuts down the unit when it is low on refrigerant charge. If it is a Trane heat pump, it could possibly be a faulty outdoor air temperature sensor. It could also be a problem in the thermostat or wiring. Likely, the unit is low on charge.

If this seems to be turning off and off quickly then there is a wiring issue within the product somewhere.
