Why does my service engine soon light keep coming on in my car?

There is either something wrong with your engine; or you have an electrical problem in the panel of your car. You need to take your car to a mechanic for a diagnostic check.

The computer has detected a problem, and it is giving you a warning you could be stranded somewhere if you don't have it checked. Some autopart stores will hookup a computer for free and tell you what is wrong. Dealers will often charge > $75.

Could be coming on for a number of reasons. most likely you are up for scheduled maintenance and needs to be seen by dealer. I'd start there and take it from there.

The most common reason for your service engine light to come on is a problem in your emission control system. This assumes that the light is staying on. If it is blinking there mey be more serious problems which need to be diagnosed by a mechanic.
