Why does my Pontiac Firebird stall out when the brake is pressed?

In my experience(not necessarily with Firebirds) that problem has to do with the MAP sensor, or Maximum Air Pressure sensor. I would take the car in and put it on a diagnostic machine.

It could be that your vacuum brake booster is faulty. it will let excess air into the intake manifold, and the car runs real lean causing it to stall out.

sounds like you have a vaccum! leak around the brake booster check the vaccum line from intake to brake booster for a leak or it mayhave come unplugged. also check for ay other vaccum lines leaking or unplugged. a good way to do this is with starting fluid, just a quick burst around line connections should pickup idle if leaking

It could be one of two things. One is a vacuum leak in the the brake system or a faulty booster. It might also be a dirty throttle-body.
