There is a problem with your laptop's video card or video chip. This is not generally a repair you can make yourself. You should replace the video card, if this is possible. If the video chip is built in, you must either have the laptop repaired or purchase a replacement laptop.

Your screen has either been damaged or you have a driver issue. You can find out which by rebooting the computer. Is the boot screen, which is the screen with the computer company's logo that comes before the Windows logo, having the same problem? If so, your screen is damaged.

Could be software, reinstall drivers. It could also be a hardware problem, check the video on a different screen. The LCD may also be physically cracked.

Your LCD is busted. You'll need to take it to a computer store to have it replaced. However, if it's too expensive, just buy a new laptop.

If your laptop screen is black on one side and color lines on the other, then your screen is either broken or your video driver is going bad.

Sounds like a damaged or malfunctioning LCD screen. If you banged it hard recently or dropped it that would explain the screen damage.

This issue sounds like the connecter between the screen and the motherboard is bad. What you'll want to do if it's stil under warrenty, is to call the manufacture for a replacement. If it's not under warrenty, you could always try ordering a new panel off the web, and replacing it yourself. Note that this can be difficult.

Laptops can opened and closed a lot. This can lead to damage of the interior wiring from the main board to the monitor. If the wiring is not seated correctly inside of your computer or the computer is opened and closed frequently, the wiring will fray.
