Why does my house have no power when the main breaker is not tripped?

The power is likely not even making it to the breaker. If your neighbors don't have power either, then there is a service outage at the moment, likely caused by damage to the infrastructure used by the power company. If the neighbors do have power, then something is wrong with the main coming into your home. Call an electrician.

It is possible for the main breaker to be bad and be in the on position, it might be tripped but not thrown, move it to the off position then turn it back on. You might have a loose neutral situation. Or the power company might have turned off you power, be it by accident or transformer failure.

The first thing you should do is look around the neighborhood = is everyone else's power out too? If it is, the problem isn't yours. If other houses have power, then there are a couple of possibilities. Either there is no power getting to your main breaker, or there's a break in the line after the breaker.

Breakers fail. Try to move it. Feels mushy, instead of having a firm snap on and off? Dead breaker. Otherwise, there's no power coming to your meter.

This could be a very serious and expensive situation. For one, did you pay your power bill? There's either a faulty wiring connection or corroded wiring. Seek a pro.
