The most common cause of large stomached cats is too much food (usually canned food), and not getting enough exercise. Indoor only cats need to be walked and played with daily. Canned food is okay occasionally, maybe once a day at most. Also pregnancy, for females. If you suspect a problem, like a tumor, see your vet immediately.

Without more information, it's hard to say why your cat has a fat stomach. Is your cat an unaltered female? She could very well be pregnant. It's also possible that your cat is overweight. Try changing your cat's diet and exercising it more.

Cats generally develop a fat stomach after being spayed or neutered. This is natural because the hormones that would have been there are no longer present.

FYI - A neutered/spayed cat is a healthier cat...they have less health issues and live longer.
