Why does my carpet smell like pet urine every time I shampoo it?

I used a cleaner on the pet stains before.

Your pet may be urinating on it still. Its also one of the hardest smells to get out of anything so your cleaner may not be working.

If the urine gets into the padding of the carpet, every time you shampoo it you are just re-wetting it. Traditional carpet cleaners won't remove the smell of the pet urine, you need to buy a special pet stain cleaner that contains enzymes. The enzymes will deactivate the urine and actually remove the odor.

You or the previous owner must of had a cat that urinated on the carpet. You should go to a specialty shop that sells odor remover and spray on the carpet and then shampoo again. There is a product called Odor Rid that should do the trick. You can also ask them what they recommed.
