Why does my air conditioner have a sloshing sound?

Answer by  Sandrion (203)

Because water is condensing on the inside of the a/c unit and causing it to make the sloshing sound. Also if it is a window unit, it uses a type of coolant to cool the air it brings it before it blows it into your house.

Condensation is building up in the box of the air conditioner. It will need to be tipped back at an angle so the back of the air conditioner is an inch or so lower than the front to drain. If there is no drain hole, you can drill one.

This sound usually occurs when the fan has been overworked or there is something in the fan. This could mean that a small nail or item has dropped in your air conditioner.

Usually this is caused by slow draining condensate. Because the moisture is built up more when the fan motor comes on it will cause the water to slosh around and can even cause it to overflow into the electrical part of the indoor furnace. Proper maintenance and Good Cleaning are necessary here.

Your filter may be blocked, which means air is not flowing through the system. Make sure coils are clean. The cause of the freezing may be that the air filter needs changing. Try changing the filter and running the unit at a higher temperature until the unit unfreezes.

There is refrigerant fluid inside the pipes that weave through the air-conditioner's innards. There may also be water trapped in trays because as the air cools it condenses out into a puddle.
