Why does inhaling the helium make you sound funny?

Helium makes your voice sound funny because the air is moving past your vocal cords at a faster rate. Faster air makes a higher sound

Helium is less dense than air. This makes the speed of sound higher in helium causing noises to be shifted to higher frequencies.
