Answer by  elb (1105)

The earliest versions of the product contained quite a bit of lanolin, which was important as an effective moisturizer. The inventor of the original product in South Africa invented the phrase Oil of Olay to mimic the sound of lanolin. There is no substance called "olay" and current Olay products use many ingredients; some have no lanolin at all.
