Why do people have affairs?

Spouses are unfaithful for different reasons. The spice may be gone out of the marriage and they want the excitement again. They may feel unloved by their spouse and want someone that shows love for them. They may no longer find their spouse attractive anymore and want someone new. They may be bored with the status quo.

Most people do not go into a relationship thinking that they're going to cheat. Some get in situations that they shouldn't be in because they are in a relationship. Then there are people who cheat because they aren't getting what they need in the relationship, whether it be sexual or emotional.

Marital affairs can be chosen for a multitude of reasons. A spouse may simply be unhappy with the marriage and lose all interest while another spouse may have had an arrogant or egotistical persona from the start which leads him or her to believe that an affair is excused. Most times it is not the faithful spouse's fault.

If a person has an affair it means that they are physically or emotionally dissatisfied with their marriage. Once a person decides to have an affair, telling their spouse would likely result in separation or divorce, which they may not want.
