The "pride flag" symbolic of the GLBT movement originated in 1978 in San Francisco, California. The first flag was designed and hand created by the artist Gilbert Baker. The multi-colored flag, currently consisting of six colors with various meanings, symbolizes the pride and diversity of, and within the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community.

Most people you talk to say it is because it shows that all colors can be united as one. Comparing it to the human race, all humans, black white, gay or straight can unite as one instead of stereo typing each other based on there desires and their beliefs they have.
