Why do fish smell?

Fish begin to smell as they begin to deteriorate. Very fresh fish does not have a strong smell. As they degrade or are cooked, the chemical change creates an odor.

Fish smell because of the water that they are swimming in, which is not all that clean, as you may imagine, with all the other things swimming around them in rivers and the sea. But the smell usually comes from the beginning of deterioration in a fish.
