Why do college parties get a bad reputation?

Is it because people think they should be studying?

One of the reasons is because when you are in undergraduate college most of the students are under the legal drinking age of 21. So all of the people drinking are doing so illegally. If students were to make better decisions while partying, and under the influence, I don't think the reputation would be as bad.

College freshman are usually 18 years old and away from home for the first time. Most 18-year-olds are half-baked and irresponsible, and thus often have difficulty settting priorities. Given the opporunity to party and spend a good bit of time intoxicated, many freshmen choose that path rather than one of class attendance, homework and study.
