Same reason as to why adults do. Because they don't have any other way of communicating their feelings, so they resort to violence. It's important to teach children that hitting is never acceptable, and that their emotions (frustrated, angry, etc. ), can be dealt with in other positive means and ways.

They don't know any better, and they see other people doing it, so they imitate. You have to teach them that it is wrong, and be consistent in your actions.

There are several reasons why a child may hit another child. They may be seeking attention, they may not have yet learned the skills to express themselves through words, or they may be acting in frustration in the situation that they are in.

Children hit others because of frustration. Their communication is limited. Even if they can talk they may not have the words to express their feelings, so they act out.
