Why can't they make dial up faster?

Dial-up uses your phone line to transfer information to your computer. The highest speed available from your phone line in only 56kbps which is slow and due to the equipment most companies use you could be looking at only 33kbps

The telephone lines used in dial-up are limited in capacity and have a lot of noise. This prevents higher speeds, though compression of data is maximized.

They have made it faster. It's called Cable. It's essentially the same thing but uses a much larger cable so information transmits faster.
