There may be several causes. Check the nitrate levels of the pond water (if you don't have a test kit, take a sample to a LFS) which should be no higher than 40ppm, lower being better. Remove any waste material with water changes. The problem might also be illness, possibly ich (white spots) or some type of internal parasite.

The most common reason for fish to die is the water chemical levels are off. Go to your local pet store and buy some water testing strips. When you test your water, you can see if everything is at the right levels. If it isn't, a pet store will sell things to help balance out the water.

They may have been under fed or over fed. they water may be too cold for them. There might not be enough oxygen for them in the water.

Out of all ornamental fishes, gold fish is very sensitive. It donot fight with other fishes. If you put the gold fish alone in the pond it maynot die so quickly. Its fins get fungus very quickly. Put some quantity of salt in the water to get rid of fungus.
