Fear of rejection. The feeling of being in control is very important to males.

I believe it is because some women are confident. Men tend to shy away from beautiful successful women. They feel these women are too smart for them. They also feel that they can't keep up with these types.

Because of the underlying issues in our culture, men have always been more dominant than women. Although women have obviously gotten more rights and more people are less likely to admit this out loud, men still want that position of power. They are naturally intimidated if they do not feel they are in that position with a woman.
