Why am I always getting searched when I go through customs?

Every time I fly I get called over by customs to get searched and do not understand why.

It depends very much on where you are traveling. Customs agents have the privilege to pull anyone they like for a search. Most custom agents are skilled with regard as to what to look for. Very often, they are examining the lines for a particular look. They are not, however, allowed to "profile. "

Possibly because you look like a stereotypical terrorist or are flying in from a major drug trafficking country like Afghanistan, Colombia, Holland, Nigeria, Pakistan or Thailand.

It might be something as small as not using a credit card to purchase your plane ticket. Often times as well, the computer randomly chooses names of people to search. To prevent being searched in the future you should travel light. If you have a lot of bags then they are going to want to search you.

It's probably coincidence because usually customs searches are random, but there may be something on your passport that is flagging you. Make sure not to act nervous or suspicious.

The customs usually search a person on random basis or if they are in doubt about a person. It may be sheer bad luck that you are always called over by the customs for getting searched. You may be feeling a lot of panicky or nervous while at the airport.
