Arthur Frommer, traveler and writer, founded the series of travel guides, most of which were based on budget-conscious travel. Today, accomplished travel writers are hired to write and update the various Frommer Guides. Frommer does not claim to know more than anybody else about travel; they offer knowledgeable, reputable, up-to-date, respected guides for travelers.

I believe that Frommer's hires a number of contributors, as do most travel guides. While Frommer's has a long-established reputation, if you are traveling on a budget I would recommend the Lonely Planet guides-- they are very thorough, frequently updated, and are sorted by price points in many cases. This helps you plan a trip on a budget.
