The Lakers began the decade with a roster of "Hall of Famers" featuring old stars such as Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, and Gail Goodrich. They acquired "Hall of Fame" center Wilt Chamberlain at the end of the 1960's who helped them to multiple championship appearances. In the mid 1970's, they acquired Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and they drafted Magic Johnson in 1979.

The big name for the LA Lakers during the 1970's was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Jamaal Wilkes was also an influential player. In the 1979 draft, the Lakers selected Earvin 'Magic' Johnson.

Without a doubt the best single player for the Lakers, and all teams for that matter was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. A few hall of famers and players who have had their jerseys retired by the Lakers that played in the 70s include Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Gail Goodrich. These guys are not only Laker greats, they're all-time greats.
