Who was the original fat Buddha?

The first Buddha was not fat. His name was Siddhārtha Gautama and he was a prince who left his life of royal luxury to live an ascetic life. He became enlightened and passed on his knowledge and teachings to his followers. The fat statue is the deity Budai, not Buddha.

The original Buddha was Siddhartha Gautama, who lived somewhere between the 6th and 4th century BCE in the northeastern Indian subcontinent.

The "fat" image of Buddha actually developed symbolically rather than as a model from an actual person, as did the smile and the pose. The original Buddha was Siddharta. The image is sacred, too, so I would avoid using "fat," try looking up the roots of Buddhism or purchasing a simple book.

Buddha was Siddhartha before he got enlightenment at Bodh Gaya in Bihar, India. He was the son of a king.
