Scott Eyre. He was a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. His ERA and total games was close to league leading. He was not a well known player until 05-06 but continued to improve and make quality game holds and wins. For a bullpen pitcher, he proved heavily improved and continued his success at San Francisco and Philly.

Major League Baseball calls their most improved player award the Comeback Player of the Year Award, gives one to each League, and in 2006 was fan-voted. In 2006, Nomar Garciaparra of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Jim Thome of the Chicago White Sox won the awards. 2005 was the first year such an award was given in MLB.

Since there is no official award, it is a matter of an opinion. But since little was known of Justin Morneau before his MVP win of 2006, I would say Justin Morneau was the most improved player.
