Who was Maccabees in the Bible?

They were a dissent army lead by Judah Maccabees. They fought a revolt that stemmed from the oppression of Judaism in Judea under the rule of Antiochus in 175 BC.

The Maccabees were a group of Jewish rebels who controlled Judea and expanded Jewish religion and the land of Isreal. The book of Maccabees is still used by Catholics, Orthodox, and other churches but is not included in the King James bible and is not used by most Protestant faiths.
