Who is Jane Austen's best female character?

Use your own definition of "best." Strongest? Smartest? Most interesting?

Elizabeth Barrett is my favorite character by Jane Austen. Elizabeth is beautiful, proud, loving, fiercely protective of her family and her love story with Darcy is entrancing.

The "best" would be matter of opinion. But I believe the most known is Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. The sad thing is, there have been so many adaptations that Elizabeth's character is really no longer as unique and interesting as she was. It is now hard to tell who she is with so many people taking their spin.

absolutely no question that Lizzie Bennett is the best. Girlfriend is strong, opinionated, smart, and no one but Mr. Darcy would be good enough.

I know I'm alone on this, but I think that Jane Bennett is the most compelling. I think that, as much as Bingley is in love with her, she married him for his money and no one suspects.

No way! Jane's whole character is about being simple and trusting. She absolutely loves Bingley. You're just stirring up drama.  add a comment
