Nobody currently wears number 8, it was retired for Yogi Berra. His number was retired in 1972, the same year he was elected to the Hall of Fame. He played for the New York Yankees from 1946 until 1963. He was elected to 15 All-Star games, won 13 World Series, and 3 AL MVPs

Nobody currently wears the number 8 with the New York Yankees, and nobody ever will again. The reason is because this number (along with a number of other numbers) is retired. The number 8 is retired for the honour of two players who wore it for the team: Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra.
