"That person is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much." is attributed to Bessie Anderson Stanley from a poem called "Success" which won her a poetry tournament for Brown Book Magazine in 1904. The poem is often incorrectly credited to Ralph Waldo Emerson.

To be honest, I'm not sure if whomever originally said it is documented. It's one of those old virtue's type sayings. If your grams used it, she's a wise woman.
