Currently, the best russian woman tennis player is Vera Zvonareva, who is currently ranked number three in the world. Maria Sharapova, probably the best known Russian woman tennis player, is currently number nine in the world. A couple others are Svetlana Kuznetsova and Nadia Petrova, all in the top twenty-five.

There are a lot of good Russian women tennis players. Elena Dementieva - highest ranked Russian female tennis player at number 5 in the world, Maria Sharapova - first women in Russia witch became the number one in ranked female player on August 22, 2005. Anastasia Myskina, Anna Kournikova, Maria Kirilenko are also well known players in the world

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranks players on the professional tour and publishes periodic rankings. As of April 4, 2011, there are three Russian players ranked in the top twenty - Vera Zvonareva (#3), Maria Sharapova (#9) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (#14).
