Which is correct to say, "The yolk of the egg are yellow" or "The yolk of the egg is yellow"?

I never know which saying is the grammatically correct one.

The correct sentence is "The yolk of the egg is yellow. " This is correct because egg is a singular form. If you had one person you would say "He is" but if you had more it would be "They are. " The same grammatical rule applies to this sentence. "Are" would be used with more than one egg or yolk.

It is gramatically correct to say "The yolk of the egg is yellow." The other option is incorrectg. One should only use "are" when the subjects are plural, for example "The yolks of the eggs are yellow."
