The 18th amendment to the constitution was repealed by the 21st amendment in December of 1933. Ratified in 1919 the 18th amendment prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of liquor. The time in which the 18th amendment was in effect is known as Prohibition. Prohibition led to the rise of gangsters seeking to fill the demand for liquor in society.
