These are found in the rain forests at low altitudes in sub-Sahara Africa. The name Gaboon comes from a northern portion of the French Congo where they were first found.
The Gaboon viper is found in the rain forests and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. Some places they are found include Guinea, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon,Central African Republic, Tanzania, Zambia, and the Sierra Leone.
