In most mid to larger size cities you can find teacher supply shops. They will stock everything you need to decorate your classroom. You can also try the larger chain craft supply stores. There you will find the basics such as, poster paint, poster board and construction paper. Online teacher supplies stores are good sources that ship to your door.

Honestly, most teachers I know frequent dollar stores. Some novelty companies also sell cheap bulk supplies (pencils, chalk). If you're not picky about advertising on the items (company names on pens), there are wholesale places that sell off-prints.

Although there are specialized teaching supply stores, the cheapest place to buy supplies is often from one of the large online retailers (just use the either search term "teaching supplies" or "classroom supplies") or from a large brick-and-mortar discount store such as Wal-Mart.
