The highest level of radon run along the Appalachian Mountain range, in the Ohio Valley, and in the States of Iowa, North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Illinois.

The northern part of the United States has the highest levels of radon. Radon levels higher than four pico curies per liter ocurr mainly in the mid to eastern part of the northern US. There are some isolated areas where higher radon levels can be found. An EPA chart of radon zones can be found on the EPA website.

The highest radon in the US tends to be in the northern states. The country can be divided into three zones with states in zone 1 having the highest radon level. Some of the states in zone 1 include North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

EPA has a radon exposure map showing that North Central US has the highest levels, but the greatest determiner of risk is the individual house. Radon exposure is highly localized.

Radon is a common underground isotope. It is found throughout the US. According to the EPA the highest average levels are in the northeast stretching west along the Canadian border.

But I believe which is ever have been recorded the highest focuses of Rn, as a marks of radon with proton number 86, was initiated in Iowa and also in the Appalachian Mountain region in southeastern Pennsylvania.

It is difficult to say, point blank, which locale has the highest radon levels, but Boulder, Montana has unusually high levels.
