Leviticus 19:28 is the primary verse specifically about tattoos. However, much of the Bible explains how our bodies are temples, and that we should treat them with care and respect. The traditional belief is that tattoos "dirty" a body, much like graffiti on an actual temple would.

Leviticus 19:28 says "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. " King James Version

But this is the old testament and we do not live by it any longer. We now live by the new testament and it is no where to be found in the new testament.  add a comment

There is simply no direct mention of the topic in the Bible. While the New Testament does refer to the body as a temple, that is, a dwelling place of God, the word does not occur in the Bible. It is an issue that is open to interpretation.

It doesn't really talk about tattoos. But it does talk about defacing your body is a sin. So, a tattoo would be under that category.

I think that it is left open to opinion. Just because you think something is defacing doesn't mean that everyone thinks that. It is simply how we interpret the scripture.  add a comment

Leviticus 19:28 says: "Ye shall not make any cuttings in the flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. " That says it all!

Again, this is the old testament. We no longer live by it! If we did everything in the old testament then we would kill pretty much everyone that did something wrong because that is how they did it in the old testament!  add a comment

In the old testament the book of Leviticus prohibits the rubbing of ash into scars. This was a pagan form of mourning that was banned. Leviticus 19:28

if we no longer live by the old testament are you just throwing out the ten commandments too? we no longer live by the laws for repentance like grain offerings and having to go through a priest to talk with God.  add a comment
