Travelling salesman Duncan Hines developed a hobby of writing highly rated restaurants reviews. In 1948 businessman Roy Park approached Hines with the idea of using his own name on some packaged food items already on the market as well as developing new products. Procter and Gamble bought the label in 1956 and changed the Hines-Park name to Duncan Hines.
