A lot of the time, you can find help within your sons school for free. Most teachers don't mind meeting with your student after school or before school for a little extra help. You can also help your son by making him try more problems then what is just started for homework.

Internet can be very helpful in such situations. Try to search for mathematical terms your son is experiencing difficulties with, usually you can find additional explanations and exercises quite easily. For many topics on-line exercises are also available.
