Call your local hospital and ask to speak to the oncall nurse. If they are not available at the time leave a message and they will call you back to answer your questions.

Check in your local phone book, often times some hospitals offer a service such as ask a nurse. The can give you general advice for free. Check out websites like WED MD, some services are free, other ask for a fee.

If you have a health insurance plan, you can call their nurse line. Many hospitals also have nurses available via phone on "nurselines" or "tricare" to answer questions, usually so they can give advice without necessitating a visit to the Emergency Room. If you have a primary care doctor, you can also ask their information line for advice.
