When you paint, what kind of chemicals are released?

Is it dangerous if you're pregnant?

Depending upon what type of paint is used , various chemicals can be released. When you paint with acrylics for example , ammonia is released. Companies have endeavored to make their paints as safe and chemical free as possible for their customers.

It's more dangerous if you're using an oil-based (or alky-based) paint than a water-based paint. Oil-based paints contain many petroleum distillate solvents that can be really dangerous if you're pregnant, so I'd avoid them. You certainly don't want to get a whiff of xylene, toluene, or mineral spirits by breathing in paint fumes.
