Many people claim to have invented the first telephone, but Alexander Graham Bell was actually the first one to receive a patent on the telephone in 1876. Due to Alexander Graham Bell receiving the first patent he is actually considered to have invented the very first telephone. Many others tried to receive this patent, but did not succeed first.
