The first computer made was huge! It took up a whole room! It was named Electronic Numerator Integrator Analyzer and Computer. And it was developed in the 1940's. It was the biggest thing since sliced bread back then!! It consumed huge amounts of power too, and people lined up to use it!

That pretty much depends on your definition of computer. Go to Wikipedia and read up on Konrad Zuse, Charles Babbage and ENIAC. ENIAC was one early computer that was as big as a basketball court. It was switched on in 1947. Some time before that "computer" was a job for people that were good at calculating.
