When the doctor feels its the right time. If you introduce then to early they can bind the baby up and can cause him stomach pain. Usually putting rice cereal in a baby bottle is a good start, but you do not make it thick. It still has to be the consistency of milk.

When you child can sit up and hold his head up unassisted. Usually its around 5-6 months of age that parents begin introducing semi solid foods. Most even start with cereal that can be mixed with water or formula or breast milk.

Baby food is introduced between 4-6 months. Usually beginning with rice (or other type) cereal, and gradually adding veggies and fruits. They will begin with an almost liquid consistency with the fruits or veggies (stage 1 baby foods) from there the consistency will increase until they are eating more substaintial foods.

Most babies are ready to try first foods between four and six months of age. If your baby is reluctant or becomes upset, wait a few weeks and try again.
