You should switch your dog to regular dog food when they are a year old. However, some vets will tell you to keep them on puppy food for 2-3 years. Regular dog food doesn't put fat on your pup at puppy food does.

At around 9 months old, a puppy will be approaching his adult size; he's nearly done getting bigger and doesn't need the extra fat content that puppy food offers.

I would suggest once they hit 2 years old. The bag of food usually tells you the first year is critical. Discuss this with your vet also they know best.

Puppy food is designed with just the right amount of vitamins and minerals that are easy for a puppy to absorb because they are still young and need extra attention. When a dog reaches maturity they need more and are able to digest more things, so puppy just becomes a waste of money then. Regular dog food is cheaper.
