When should I prune a dogwood tree?

I have several in my yard and I love them and want to keep them healthy.

In the spring after you start to see the new growth that way you will know you arent cutting them back to far. Because if you cut them back too far they will die back from the cut and you don't want that to happen.

It is usually best to prune trees late in the fall or in early winter. All the tree sap has gone down into the roots and it has gone dormant.

When branches become crowded or low hanging, it is good to prune those. This should be done in later winter or early spring before the new growth appears.
