Weed killer should be applied either early in the morning or in the late afternoon, especially in the summer. Do not apply it during the heat of the day. Make sure you selectively apply the weed killer as most do not differentiate between weeds and plants you wish to keep in your yard.

There are two main types of weed killer: pre-emergent and post-emergent. Pre-emergent weed killers are applied to an area before weeds grow and post-emergent killers are applied after weeds appear.
