Tbis isn't a very popular look today, but if you were going to wear one, it is best saved for the spring and summer months where people typically dress in lighter colors.

You can wear them to events described as black-tie affairs, as they are very formal. It will say black-tie on the invitation. Some people say you can only wear them between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but that is an old tradition that is fading away.

It used to be that white was only appropriate in the evenings. Tradition has changed, and you can now wear one pretty much wherever you want. However, if you are looking at a "black tie" invitation, you should probably wear a black jacket.

It is for formal occasions in hot climates, cruises and outdoor summer parties where a formal attire is obligatory but a black dinner jacket would be uncomfortable for the wearer. Occasionally summer wedding parties may choose them too. If in doubt, choose the black one!
