Gene Rayburn, born Eugene Rubessa, died on November 29, 1999, due to congestive heart failure. He also hosted game shows Play Your Hunch and Tick Tac Dough. He served as announcer and sidekick on The Tonight Show from 1954 to 1957, when he was replaced by Hugh Downs.

Gene Rayburn was an American radio and television personality. Who was born on December 22, 1917. before Gene Rayburn to start his television career he was a very famouse radio performer. He worked in many of the game show programs on television. At the age of 81 he died on November 29, 1999.

Gene Rayburn was born December 22, 1917 in Christopher, Illinois, and died on November 29, 1999. His birth name was Eugene Rubessa but was told it sounded "too Italian", although his parents were Croatian immigrants. Thus, he chose his stage name randomly from a telephone book. Gene was one of the first NBC pages.

Gene Rayburn died on November 29, 1999 at the age of 81. He died of congestive heart failure just after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. After his cremation, his ashes were spread in his daughter's garden outside the house he died in.
