When can you know the sex of the baby?

I will probably be getting an ultrasound but I want to wait until I can be sure of the sex.

The genitals start to develop at week 12, but you probably won't be able to tell until at the earliest week 16. Most sex-determining ultrasounds are performed right around week 20. I know this because I just had one yesterday.

Gender determination during an ultrasound is most accurate between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. Gender can be detected as early as 12 weeks, but that is not as accurate.

Sex of the baby can be known after 8-9 weeks. But in todays fast changing world it is not advisable to indulge in keeping the baby of the sex you want. Be it boy or girl, babies are gift of God. So it is good to acceptwhat God has given.

You can sometimes tell the baby's sex between 15 and 16 weeks. However, most OBs will do an anatomy scan at 18 weeks, at which time you should be able to tell the baby's sex for sure, as long as the baby cooperates.

The ultrasound technician can tell you the baby's sex if they can see it themselves, this occurs usually by the 5th or 6th month. Sometimes though, the baby is not positioned for the technician to see. They usually only tell you it will be a boy if they are absolutely sure.
