What's the difference between the terms "emic" and "etic" in anthropology?

These are terms used to describe behavior of humans. Emic is the view point of somthing meaningful in its reality. Etic is based off the observation or belief of the viewer. Kenneth pike was the inventor of the words in 1954 a very skilled linguist. They think of this as outsiders and insiders in culutural terms.

Emic and etic describe two manners in which a social custom or belief can be observed. Emic is a reflective, that is an account by an individual in that society, whereas etic is an outsider's account.
