What's the difference between rational and polynomial expressions?

A rational expression is in fractional form with a variable is in the denominator. With polynomials, you can have fractional coefficients, but the variables are never in the denominator.

polynomial expressions of the form 4x^3+2x^2+x+4. A rational expression is an expression of a ratio of polynomials. Ex. 1/x or (x^2 + 1)/(x^4-x^2+2).
